Route Overview
The Yokonami Kuroshio Line is a scenic coastal road in Kochi Prefecture, connecting Susaki City and Usa Town in Tosa City.
It stretches about 20 km along the ridge of the Yokonami Peninsula, offering panoramic views of both the Pacific Ocean and Kochi’s intricate coastline.
To the right, you’ll see calm bays and inlets; to the left, the wide-open sea.
Recommended Driving Section
Driving from Susaki toward the Yokonami Observatory is especially recommended.
The “Yokonami Skyline Observatory” offers a spectacular view of the coastline and deep-blue ocean.
On clear days, you may even see Cape Ashizuri in the distance.
Road Conditions & Safety
The entire road is paved and fairly wide, making for an easy drive, although it has many curves.
Because the views are so stunning, it’s important to avoid distracted driving.
Strong winds or fog can occur, so drive carefully and keep your speed in check.

Yokonami Observatory: A famous viewpoint with benches and parking.
Takaoka Daiichi Beach: Great for swimming in summer.
Usa Shiokaze Park: A peaceful seaside rest stop, perfect for breaks.
Food & Local Cuisine
Usa Town in Tosa is known for fresh seafood, especially seared bonito (katsuo tataki) and seafood rice bowls.
There are also local cafés and diners using regional ingredients.

There is no toll—it’s free to drive.

- About 1 hour from Kochi City via Route 56 and Prefectural Route 23
- About 20 minutes from Susaki East IC
Parking is available at observatories and rest spots.
Best Season & Climate
Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) offer the clearest skies and most comfortable temperatures.
Summer brings vibrant ocean colors, but be sure to stay hydrated.
In winter, the crisp air makes for excellent long-range views.
