Tatsudomari Line

The Tatsudomari Line is a scenic 20 km mountain and coastal road connecting Cape Tappi (Tappizaki) in Sotogahama Town with Kodomari in Nakadomari Town, in northern Aomori Prefecture. It is part of National Route 339, and is also selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Roads.

The road features sharp curves and elevation changes, offering stunning views of the Japan Sea and the Tsugaru Peninsula. It is a favorite route for touring motorcyclists seeking both challenge and scenery.

Recommended Section

Cape Tappi to Kodomari (or reverse), approx. 20 km
A winding road running along the mountain slopes and cliffs. You can enjoy open views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. The route feels different depending on direction, so a round trip is recommended.

Road Conditions and Safety

Fully paved road with narrow mountain sections
Steep slopes and many curves—recommended to ride slowly
Be careful of falling rocks or leaves on the road surface
Closed in winter (mid-November to late April)

Touring Plan Example

One-day ride: Goshogawara → Nakadomari → Tatsudomari Line → Cape Tappi → return (about 5–6 hours)
