The Shiretoko Crossing Road (National Route 334) is the only national highway crossing the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido. It runs about 23.8 km between Utoro (Shari Town) and Rausu Town. This mountain route offers a dynamic ride through the untouched nature of the Shiretoko World Natural Heritage area. On clear days, you can even see Kunashiri Island across the sea.
Recommended Section
We recommend riding from the Utoro side over the Shiretoko Pass down toward Rausu.
Around the pass, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Sea of Okhotsk and dense primeval forests.
As you descend a series of tight curves, use engine braking to maintain control and ride safely.
