National Route 243 runs through eastern Hokkaido, connecting the cities of Abashiri and Teshikaga. One of its most scenic highlights is Bihoro Pass, located at an altitude of 525 meters.
From the pass, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over Lake Kussharo, Japan’s largest caldera lake, with the majestic Akan Mountains in the distance. It’s often called one of Hokkaido’s “Three Great Scenic Views” and is a favorite for drivers and touring motorcyclists.
