Ontake Skyline

Route Overview

The Ontake Skyline is a scenic mountain road running along the slopes of Mount Ontake in the Kiso region of Nagano Prefecture. It connects Kaida Kogen (Kaida Highlands) to the Ontake Ropeway area. The elevation reaches around 1,800 meters. Though the road is about 15 km long, it offers stunning views of the majestic Mount Ontake and serves as an access route for sightseeing and hiking.

Recommended Driving Section

The best section to drive is from Kaida Kogen to the Ontake Ropeway (Kurosawa Trailhead). This route offers a close-up view of Mount Ontake and passes through beautiful highland scenery throughout the year.

Road Conditions and Safety

The road is fully paved and relatively wide. There are many curves, so cautious driving is recommended, but standard vehicles can use it without issue. Because of the high elevation, weather conditions can change quickly.
