Route Overview
Ōmagoe Kaidō (National Route 101) is a scenic coastal road stretching about 100 km from Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture to Ajigasawa Town in Aomori Prefecture. The section between Fukaura and Ajigasawa is especially beautiful, with views of the Sea of Japan and the Shirakami Mountains. It’s a favorite for touring riders.
Recommended Riding Section
Fukaura → Ajigasawa (about 40 km)
This stretch runs along the Sea of Japan, with fun ups and downs and gentle curves. The ocean view is amazing, and at sunset, golden light fills the road — perfect for riding.
Road Condition & Safety Info
- Fully paved and mostly two lanes.
- Be careful around curves.
- Winter may bring snow or ice; some sections might be closed.
- Fog and coastal winds can reduce visibility.
Points of Interest
Senjōjiki Coast: A wide rocky shore — walkable during low tide.
Furofushi Onsen: An open-air hot spring with sunset ocean views. Day visits welcome!
Kazuno Coast: A quiet beach with cool rock shapes, great for photos.
Ajigasawa Station Area: A small local area with restaurants and shops.

Fees & Access
The road is free to use.
You can ride north from Noshiro or come via Hirosaki and Goshogawara to Ajigasawa.
Gas stations and rest areas are available along the way.
Best Season & Weather
May to October is the best time to visit.
Spring and summer bring fresh green views and a blue sea.
In fall, the colorful leaves and sunsets are beautiful.
In winter, riding is risky due to snow and ice.
Touring Plan Example
One-Day Trip (from Hirosaki)
Hirosaki → Ajigasawa → Fukaura → Senjōjiki → Furofushi Onsen → Return to Hirosaki (about 6 hours)
Overnight Plan
Stay in Fukaura or Ajigasawa. On the second day, ride to the Shirakami Mountains or Juniko Lakes for nature exploring.
