Route Overview
The Nita Pass Loop Road is a scenic mountain drive in Unzen City, Nagasaki Prefecture, located within Unzen-Amakusa National Park. This approximately 10 km loop connects Unzen Onsen with the Nita Pass area, offering panoramic views of Mt. Fugen and the surrounding landscape.
The road is one-way, forming a loop that starts and ends near Unzen Onsen. It is especially popular during spring for the blooming Miyama Kirishima azaleas and in autumn for vibrant foliage.

Unzen Onsen → Nita Pass Parking Area (Ropeway Station)
- A winding mountain road climbing along steep slopes.
- As you ascend, sweeping views of Mt. Unzen and even the Ariake Sea unfold.
From the parking area, you can take the Myoken Ropeway to reach even higher viewpoints near the summit.
Road Conditions & Safety Info
- Fully paved and well maintained, but narrow with many sharp curves.
- Heavy traffic during peak tourist seasons (spring and fall).
- Closed in winter (usually from December to March) due to snow and ice.
⚠ Motorcycles are not allowed on this road. It is strictly off-limits to two-wheel vehicles.
