Route Overview
The Nishi-Izu Skyline is a scenic mountain road in Shizuoka Prefecture, stretching about 10.8 km from near Mt. Daruma (Darumayama) through Heda Pass to Nishina Pass.
Famous for its breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the surrounding Izu mountains, this road is a popular destination for both drivers and motorcycle riders.
At nearly 900 meters above sea level, it offers wide, open panoramas of sky, sea, and peaks.
There are few tall trees along the route, allowing continuous scenic views while driving.
Recommended Driving Section
The section from Darumayama Rest House to Nishina Pass is especially recommended.
You’ll enjoy a winding road with rolling hills and wide-open views, with some spots offering a direct view of Mt. Fuji.
On clear days, sunsets over Suruga Bay from this road are truly stunning.
Road Conditions & Safety Info
The road is fully paved and generally in good condition.
However, some areas are narrow and include tight curves, so caution is advised—especially during oncoming traffic.
There are sections without guardrails, so it’s important to keep your speed down on descents.
Due to its elevation, weather can change quickly, with occasional fog or strong winds.
Note: The road is free to use. Open to all vehicles, including cars, motorcycles (all engine sizes), and bicycles.
