Route Overview
The Niseko Panorama Line (part of Hokkaido Route 66: Iwanai–Tōya Line) is a scenic mountain route that stretches approximately 30 km, connecting Iwanai on the Sea of Japan coast to Kutchan and Niseko.
The road offers dramatic views as it winds through the Niseko mountain range, with alternating vistas of rugged peaks and ocean horizons. It’s especially popular in autumn, when the foliage turns vibrant.

Iwanai → Shinsen-numa → Goshiki Onsen (Approx. 30 km)
This route features curvy climbs and descents, with beautiful scenery around Shinsen-numa Marsh. On clear days, you can see the majestic Mt. Yotei.
The road is usually quiet, making it ideal for touring.
Road Conditions & Safety Info
- Fully paved and well maintained, but includes many curves and some steep areas.
- Watch for fog and reduced visibility; drive carefully on blind corners.
- Closed during winter (early November to late April).
- In autumn, fallen leaves may reduce traction—ride cautiously.

Fees & Access
- No tolls – the entire route is free to use.
- About 2 hours by car from Sapporo to Iwanai. Can also be accessed from the Kutchan/Niseko side.
- Parking and rest areas are available along the route.

- Best time to ride: June to mid-October.
- Lush green in summer, vibrant red and gold leaves in fall.
- Temperatures can be cool at higher altitudes – bring layers.
- Closed during the snowy winter season.
