Route Overview
The Muroto Skyline is a scenic road in Muroto City, Kochi Prefecture, about 10 km long.
It starts from National Route 55 and climbs into the hills near Cape Muroto, reaching an observatory at around 250 meters above sea level.
This is a beautiful coastal drive where you can enjoy wide views of the ocean and sky — a dramatic landscape unique to the southeastern tip of Shikoku.
Recommended Driving Section
The best route is from the Cape Muroto side, heading up to the observatory.
As you climb the winding road, you’ll get sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the town below.
From the Cape Muroto Observatory, on a clear day, you can even see the horizon sharply.
Road Conditions & Safety Information
The entire road is paved and relatively wide.
There are many curves and some steep slopes, so drive slowly.
Watch for falling rocks — warning signs are posted.
Note: Snow is very rare even in winter, so the road is usually passable year-round.
