Mikata goko rainbow line (Angel line)

Route Overview

The Wakasa Bay area in Fukui Prefecture offers a series of scenic touring routes where mountains meet the sea.
Among the most famous are the Mikata Goko Rainbow Line and Angel Line, both winding mountain roads that provide stunning views of the ocean and lakes from elevated vantage points.
With its crystal-clear waters, deep blue lakes, and seasonal natural beauty, this area attracts many riders, especially from spring to autumn.

Recommended Sections

Highly recommended segments include the Mikata Goko Rainbow Line near the Mt. Baijo Summit Park and the uphill route to the observation point on the Angel Line.
These winding roads run along mountainsides at elevations of 300–400 meters, offering exhilarating views over the sea and lakes.
Early mornings and evenings are especially peaceful, with clear air enhancing the breathtaking scenery.

Road Conditions and Safety Notes

The Rainbow Line was fully renovated in 2020. It now offers wide lanes and excellent pavement conditions.
The Angel Line is narrower with more curves, but traffic is light, and it is enjoyable for cautious riders.
Note that roads can be slippery on rainy days, and fog may develop, so be sure to check the weather in advance.
