The Koya-Ryujin Skyline is a mountain road connecting Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture to Ryujin Village in Tanabe City, stretching about 42 km in length.
It winds through the Kii Mountain Range along high ridgelines, offering spectacular panoramic views at altitudes over 1,000 meters.
Once a toll road, it is now free to use.
Recommended Section
The ride from Koyasan toward Ryujin Onsen is highly recommended.
The scenery gradually opens up as you ride deeper into the mountains.
Near Gomasan Sky Tower, you’ll find one of the best panoramic viewpoints along the route.
Road Conditions & Safety

The entire road is paved and well maintained, with a comfortable road width.
However, it features many curves and elevation changes, so keep your speed in check.
Fog is common, especially in the early morning and during rainy weather, reducing visibility.
In winter, expect snow and ice, and some sections may be closed, so always check road conditions in advance.
