Kirishima Highland Road

Route Overview

The Kirishima Highland Road refers mainly to Kagoshima Prefectural Route 1, also known as the Kirishima Bird Line.
It’s a scenic drive of about 20 km that winds through the lush highlands of Kirishima City, with views of Kirishima Mountains, Ebino Plateau, and Sakurajima Volcano.
The elevation ranges from 600 to 1,200 meters, making it a cool and refreshing ride even in summer.

Recommended Riding Section

The best part is from Kirishima Onsen (hot springs) to Ebino Plateau.
You’ll enjoy smooth curves, light elevation changes, and stunning views of Mt. Takachiho, Mt. Karakuni, and Sakurajima on clear days.
Traffic is usually light, making it an ideal route for relaxing touring.
