Route Overview
This tour introduces the Ise-Shima Skyline, a scenic toll road connecting Ise City and Toba City in Mie Prefecture.
The road stretches approximately 16.3 km, offering continuous panoramic views of Ise Bay and nearby islands.
Winding along Mt. Asama at an elevation of 555 meters, the route provides a thrilling ride with curves along the mountain ridgeline.
On clear days, even Mt. Fuji may be visible in the distance.
Recommended Riding Section
While the entire route is enjoyable, the section from Asama Mountain Observatory to the Toba exit is especially recommended.
It features wide curves overlooking the sea, scenic photo spots, and several rest areas.
Traffic is relatively light on weekday mornings and evenings, making for a relaxing and scenic ride.
Road Conditions and Safety Notes
The road is well-paved and approximately 6 to 7 meters wide.
Speed limits are typically 40–50 km/h, and downhill sections have sharp curves, so careful braking is essential.
Fog is common in the early mornings or during rainy weather—check the forecast before you ride.

Toll Fees & Rental Information
The Ise-Shima Skyline is a toll road, and the fees are as follows:
- Motorcycles (125cc and above): ¥900 (one way)
- Cars: ¥1,270 (one way)
Motorcycle rentals (mid- to large-size) are available around Ise Station from ¥5,000 per day (advance booking required).
Best Season & Weather
The best time to ride is from March to June and October to November.
In spring, cherry blossoms line the route; in autumn, colorful foliage fills the mountains.
On clear days, you can enjoy wide views of the sea and islands.
Be cautious of heat in summer and possible ice in winter.
Food & Rest Spots
Along the route, you’ll find the Asama Summit Shop, and near the Toba-side exit, restaurants along the Pearl Road offer local specialties.
Popular foods include Ise Udon, Akafuku (sweet mochi), and seafood rice bowls.

- Day Trip: Ise City → Ise Grand Shrine → Ise-Shima Skyline → Toba Observatory (Approx. 3–4 hours)
- Overnight Trip: Stay in Ise City → Next morning: Explore Shima Peninsula → South Ise via Pearl Road
Access
The starting point in Ise City is easily accessible via Kintetsu or JR Ise Station.
From Nagoya: about 1.5 hours by car.
From Osaka: about 2.5 hours.
