Aso Milk Road is a scenic road that runs along the outer rim of Mt. Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture.
The name “Milk Road” comes from the many farms and pastures nearby.
You can enjoy wide open grasslands, cows grazing, and beautiful views of the Aso mountains.
This road is also a useful connection between Aso City and Kumamoto City.
It is popular with both drivers and motorcycle riders.
Recommended Section
The best section is from Nijūno Tōge (Double Ridge Pass) to Shiroyama Viewpoint and Daikanbō.
You can drive along the highland with amazing views of the Aso caldera and outer mountains.
Daikanbō is the most famous viewpoint. On clear days, the view is incredible.
Road Conditions & Safety

Most of the road is paved and in good condition.
However, some areas have many curves and narrow lanes.
In the early morning or evening, fog can make it hard to see.
In winter (December to March), snow and ice may close the road.
Large trucks are rare, so it’s good for relaxed driving or touring.
