Amakusa Pearl Line

Route Overview

The Amakusa Pearl Line is a scenic coastal route connecting Uki City to Amakusa City in Kumamoto Prefecture. It’s part of National Routes 266 and 324. This route features a series of four bridges—Tenmon Bridge, Oyano Bridge, Nakanobashi, Maejima Bridge, and Matsushima Bridge—spanning from the Uto Peninsula to the Amakusa Islands. The total length is about 20 km, offering dynamic ocean views and island landscapes.

Highlights and Scenic Points

The route offers spectacular views as you cross the five Amakusa bridges. Especially notable is the Amakusa Matsushima area, which is known as one of Japan’s top three “Matsushima” scenic spots. The combination of blue sea, scattered islands, and striking sunsets or sunrises make this a favorite for photographers and riders alike.

  • Many sections with good visibility; beginner-friendly
  • Slightly heavy traffic during tourist seasons—caution advised
  • Limited street lighting in some areas—avoid riding at night
  • Strong crosswinds may occur on the bridges—hold your line firmly

  • Rest stops and facilities often have designated motorcycle parking
